County Government

County boards of supervisors are an administrative arm of the state of Wisconsin. They are limited in the exercise of their powers and responsibilities to only those matters which are explicitly authorized by state statute. The citizenry of the county elects County Board of supervisors who serves as both the legislative and in some instances the executive branch of government providing State services at the local level. The terms of office for each supervisor and how each supervisory district is established is governed under state law and implemented at the local level through either a charter or ordinance process. Principal services offered at the county level are extremely broad in nature and touch upon the lives of its citizens from before they are born to well after they have died. Our course will explore the role of County boards of supervisors and how those elected officials impact the lives of our community daily basis.
