JANESVILLE — Residents of Janesville have debated a southside grocery store ever since Pick ‘n Save closed years ago.
Everyone has a theory, right? But city hall has taken a mostly hands off approach.
Recently Madison, faced with the loss of a grocery store on the busy south Park Street corridor, proactively addressed similar issues.
Rather than theorizing about how and why they did it, we called them up and invited them to Janesville to tell us.
“Southside renewal — it’s more than just a grocery store,” takes place at 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, at UW-Rock County in the commons of Allen Hall, 2909 Kellogg Avenue, Janesville. Enter off of Kellogg Avenue.
The program is open to the public to attend and submit questions, and will stream live on the Civics Academy’s Facebook page.

What comes next is really up to the residents. There’s no reason someone can’t ask a council member to put a resolution on the agenda to direct city staff to explore an option or two.
